In a recent conversation with my body building, personal trainer, swim instructor (still single) 28 yr. old son, yesterday... He says, " Ya know mom! You really should separate yourself from your work. People are noticing YOU and your words. They should be chosen wisely". As I sat there and listened to his unsolicited advice, I started to laugh because just the night before I was told by a very good friend, " Ya know, we all fall in love with you because of who you are...just sometimes do you have to be so much you"? (although, I am sure that was supposed to be a compliment...I stood there shaking my head!)
Well folks...to answer the above, Yep, I do have to be me!!! I am who I am and I don't separate! I'm an artist...
I live in color and in a world of creative imagery. It's in my DNA and it's in my thick Italian heritage. I speak from the heart! and often times my view is on what others don't see! My Gram always said, " Kit, you say what you mean and you most definitely mean what you say"! LOL, Now of course she was rolling her eyes at me as she was saying this.
From in my early teens, I just started to look at things differently
and it wasn't until the crash of our economy in 2008 that I decided to start speaking/writing about those views and putting that color on canvas. (Do the math that's a lot of years to be holding all this stuff in) It had to come out one way or the other!
My favorite story, my daughter now 25, married w/ babies...when she was in the 5th grade, she came home after a day of school and says, "mommy, why are we so different"? Very seriously, I looked at her and said , "honey, we are not different we are just more colorful than what people are use to"! Satisfied by that answer she skipped away... Although for the last decade she has made comment on how she wished her mother could have been normal? ( Ah normal is a state of mind!)
Then we have my 12 year old. My pre teen that will be in the 7th grade at Bayless. He is a kid of not many words...but I get that look like "really mom?" then he too rolls his eyes...
The point in all is "It's not what we see...it's what we don't see" I take pride in being different, not following the norm and being very expressive. It's a gift and not everyone gets it! but they certainly are entertained by it!
So as I make my introduction into the Affton/Shrewsbury community, I am only hoping over the next several weeks you follow my 'live out loud on canvas' journey. From time to time I will tell you... what's happening, where I'll be and what creative pieces I am working on!
There is no separating when you live your destined life...I want to share it all... beside where else would I put all this noise?...of course other than on canvas!
