Affton Offense Sputters as Cougars Fall to Priory
The Cougars fail to gain any offensive momentum at home in their 27-6 loss to Priory.
The game had more than its share of mental mistakes on both sides of the ball, but Priory seemed to find ways to capitalize on 's mistakes.
In the end, Priory captured their first 2011 win, 27-6.
Priory head coach Marty Combs said earlier in the week, "We made some great plays last week against Windsor, but we need more consistency."
On Friday, the Rebels were consistent both on offense and on defense. In spite of making its share of mistakes, Priory found a way into the end zone both on the ground and through the air.
The visiting Rebels had very strong performances by returning senior wide receiver/defensive back Seve Esparrago, junior running back Thomas Raybuck (who also had two touchdowns against Windsor last week), and were led by the confident junior quarterback David Nogalski.
Unfortunately, the Cougars just couldn't put any offense together.
Junior quarterback Jonah Boyd was able to generate long drives deep into Priory territory throughout the game, but the momentum was quickly destroyed by penalties (two touchdowns were called back due to holding calls).
In the end, these penalties cost Affton a victory. Affton finally broke into the end zone late with only about 50 seconds left.
