Shrewsbury Police Blotter: Thieving Houseguest

Friday, June 24
A South St. Louis County man was arrested on Interstate 44 on charges of speeding at 74 mph in a 60 mph zone, possession of marijuana and having outstanding warrants for his arrest from two near by police departments.
Update: Shrewsbury police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Jermie Edwards of Cameron Road in North St. Louis County with bond set at $75,000. Edwards has been in custody since Friday, May 13 when police investigated the theft of a Jeep from the 7800 block of Garden Avenue, which he used in residential burglaries in nearby communities. Police eventually recovered the stolen Jeep from the 2600 block of Hickory Avenue in South St. Louis City and recovered property inside the stolen Jeep which was taken in the burglaries.

Saturday, June 25
Police were called to a train derailment on 10:23 PM at 7200 Lansdowne Ave. One Burlington Northern freight train car derailed as it left the yard near I-44 and Arsenal Avenue and traveled southwest. The derailed train car struck a pedestrian walkway on the trestle overpass, which is utilized by train employees for performing maintenance on the tracks. Five homes and Phil Mart were evacuated when one on the train cars was discovered to have potential hazardous materials. Metrolink was stopped in Maplewood until the hazardous train car was removed from the scene. Burlington Northern was able to remove the train and repair the trestle. The 7200 block of Lansdowne Avenue was closed until Sunday at 4:45 PM.

Sunday, June 26
A homeowner reported more than $600 in cash missing from a basement bedroom in the 5000 block of Glennon Avenue. There was no forced entry into the home. Police contacted a friend of the family whostayed at the home recently regarding the theft. Restitution was paid to the homeowner and an affidavit of “Non-Prosecution” was signed.
Monday, June 27
A shoplifter was arrested at 7:45 a.m. for stealing more than $75 worth of steaks from Dierbergs, 7233 Watson Rd. The South St. Louis city man was issued a citation to appear in municipal court.
Police received a complaint regarding a broken front windshield of a Honda Pilot in the parking lot of the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center. The victim told police she parked her vehicle at 2:22 p.m., and when she returned to it at 4:20 p.m., the window was shattered.
Tuesday, June 28
Five pairs of eyeglasses frames were reported stolen from Crown Vision Center. The suspect left the store prior to police being called to the scene. Video surveillance inside the store is being reviewed.
Thursday, June 30
Police investigated the theft of a tote bag, a camera, a set of keys and purse from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 7400 block of Woodlawn Colonial Lane. The theft took place sometime overnight.
