St. Louis Ad Agency Launches Its Very Own Record Label

(St. Louis, MO) -- St. Louis advertising agency Boxing Clever is announcing the launch of the company’s latest passion project, Boxing Clever Records. The music label will release a series of limited edition pressings exclusively on classic seven-inch vinyl. Each current record showcases two emerging music artists from the US and Europe, and includes music from a variety of genres and styles.

“Since our first passion project, creating in-store band posters for (renowned St. Louis record store) Vintage Vinyl, music has been a focus for our agency,” Executive Creative Director Jim Harper stated.  “Ok, not a focus, a sick, unhealthy, wallet-draining obsession. A group of us here are terrible music snobs. We always will be and there’s no changing it. So instead, we embraced it."

Unique to other labels, artists featured on Boxing Clever Records retain full ownership of the music in exchange for the label’s full creative license on the design and packaging.

All of Boxing Clever Records’ package designs are printed locally and includes a classic 45rpm spindle adapter in a hand-stamped envelope, one of three variant postcards and a good old-fashioned Boxing Clever Records No. 2 pencil. The first series will consist of six releases over the course of the next 6-9 months with additional music release methods in development.

Boxingcleverrecords.com allows visitors to listen to music by the bands on a one-of-a-kind digital turntable. A music snobmentation section is devoted entirely to educating the reader on current and historic artists that raise their music snobbery quotient. In addition to available and upcoming releases, the site also features several original merchandise items for purchase.

Each Boxing Clever Records vinyl release is limited to 500, and a box set of the first series will be available when the last record of the series releases.
