Authorities Warn People to Keep Survival Kits for Serious Flooding Expected This Spring

Authorities advise people to prepare for potential disaster with survival kits that contain emergency supplies, food and water.

APRIL 6, 2016, Arnold, Missouri…The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other authorities are warning Americans to prepare this spring for another round of potentially disastrous flooding of the kind that devastated much of Louisiana, Missouri and Texas early in January,

Authorities advise individuals and families to prepare for potential disaster with survival kits that contain emergency supplies, food and water for three days in case they are stranded by high water or lose utility power.

“Flooding is the Number One cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S.,” said Tom Graziano of NOAA. Parts of Louisiana, Arkansas and eastern Texas, already devastated by severe flooding this year, are at risk for more flooding through June, according to NOAA.

“Rivers and streams in the Ohio River basin and the Tennessee and Cumberland River Valleys also are at risk to exceed minor flooding, according to advisories from NOAA,” Houser said.
