Think of Church and Say "Yum"

I've learned that, on the weekends, there is no need to leave town for a great dinner. Jefferson County's Christian community feeds not only the soul, but also the body. And, they do it so well!

After growing up at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Barnhart, I know that when I get to heaven, Jesus will unveil the best potluck dinner I have ever seen.

Lutherans are great at potluck dinners!  When my friends and I were in our twenties, pot-luck Sunday was always the Sunday we tried to come home from college and faraway military stations. Why?  Because after church we could look forward to the potluck.  The food was free, and so, so good.  That was a combination twenty-somethings rarely get (outside of meals just with Mom and Dad).

In the past year, I have enjoyed wonderfully home-cooked potluck meals at two other local churches: Rock Presbyterian Church in Imperial, home of the famous Mustard Seed Pre-school and Parkton Assembly of God Church in Barnhart, home of the best billboard ministry I have ever seen.

Most recently, I’ve learned that Catholics are great at cooking up fried chicken and roast beef dinners.  Last Friday, I enjoyed a wonderful roast beef dinner at St. John’s Catholic Church in Imperial, Missouri.  The very next day, I was treated to an absolutely heavenly fried chicken dinner at the Church Picnic at Our Lady Queen of Peace in House Springs, Missouri.
