Letter to the Editor: 'It's Time for a Change'
Jefferson County Councilman Bob Boyer endorses Doris Borgelt for mayor.

Editor's note: The following letter to the editor was submitted by Jeffesron County Councilman Bob Boyer.
Dear Friends,
I just read the latest edition of the Arnold-Imperial Leader, and I
must say I am shocked!
We have number of real problems in the City of Arnold. From failingΒ sewers, to crumbling roads, to small businesses being forced to close,Β it's no secret that Arnold is a real mess. For some reason, localΒ politicians, and even the editor of the local newspaper, have spentΒ considerable time, money and energy on a smear campaign against myΒ friend, Doris Borgelt.
When my wife and I moved to the Arnold area in 2005, I started to payΒ attention to the local political scene. A good website for news andΒ information at the time wasΒ ArnoldTalk.com. Even back then, Doris wasΒ being smeared and discredited by the local politicians and pundits forΒ simply asking questions and trying to keep City officials open, honestΒ and transparent.
It's not easy being a lone voice fighting a political machine. For
years, Doris has never backed down fighting for transparency,
accountability and good government here in the City of Arnold.
On Tuesday, April 2, we have a chance to finally elect someone withΒ the courage, humility, and strength to lead this city through the realΒ and harrowing financial and infrastructure problems Arnold has in nextΒ few years. We've tried Ron Counts as Mayor since 2009. Ron hasΒ proven in what he told me personally a couple of years ago when IΒ asked him to take a stand on an issue -- that his days of "riding on aΒ white horse to save the day" were over.
Albert Einstein once said that "the definition of insanity is to doΒ the same thing over, and over, again and expect a different result."Β We've tried the Ron Counts-style of leadership. And after:
- a $1 million blunder with the CVS Pharmacy project,
- paying $500,000 to fill in a hole with dirt near the Post Β Office,
- firing, then re-hiring a "part-time" City Attorney that makes
- over $200,000 a year,
- giving a $55,000 settlement to a city worker for claims that wereΒ never verified,
- making a fiasco out of a land deal for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
When is enough, truly enough?
I am endorsing Doris Borgelt for Mayor of Arnold. On Tuesday, We theΒ People have 13 hours to truly change this City forever. We have aΒ chance to elect a leader dedicated to serving US! I am asking for
your help. I am asking for your vote for Doris, as well as you to
inform two other people about her campaign. The signs are standing,Β the ads are bought, the doors are knocked. The only thing that is leftΒ is for the votes to be cast!
Edmund Burke once said that "Evil triumphs when good men (and women)Β choose to do nothing." Will you stand with me on Tuesday, April 2,Β and support the only candidate in this race that will stand with usΒ during the hard times to come?
Doris Borgelt has always been there for us. On Tuesday, it's time to
be there for her.
God Bless You, and thank you for your time.
Bob Boyer,
Jefferson County Councilman
