Alpha Delta Kappa: Community Service in Action
Rockwood educators making a difference in our community

Rockwood School District members of the Beta Xi chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority have contributed to numerous philanthropic endeavors in the West County area this fall. As part of their ongoing community-based altruistic mission the chapter donated dozens of sweat suits to the YWCA Women’s Resource Center Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) who provided service throughout the last year to more than 800 victims of rape and sexual assault. At another event, members enjoyed meeting “Shoney” as Support Dogs, Inc. informed Beta Xi members of their mission to educate local businesses and organizations about assistance dogs. Each trained dog positively impacts an individual's life by helping him or her achieve independence and hope with the support and companionship offered through a highly-trained canine. ADK sisters donated $400 along with puppy toys and various cleaning supplies to support the organization’s work. During October members participated in the Feed My Starving Children program at Good Shepherd Lutheran church. Through this program hand-packed meals, specifically formulated for malnourished children, have reached nearly 70 countries around the world. In November, the educators collected boxes of food to support the Rockwood “Got your Back Pack” initiative. As stated on the district website homelessness touches nearly every Rockwood school. Each weekend, homeless students receive a backpack filled with nutritious food items that are easy to open, simple to prepare and can accommodate a variety of living circumstances.
Any educator who teaches within the Rockwood geographical boundaries is eligible to join the organization. For further information please contact Nancy McClintock at mcclintocknancy@gmail.com or Maureen Buck at maureenbuck@aol.com.
