The libraries at Lafayette and Rockwood Summit high schools have each been named a 2021 Exemplary School Library by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Only seven school libraries in the state received this distinguished award, and two are in the Rockwood School District. The schools were evaluated by a team of school librarians from across Missouri on instruction, leadership, library environment, library management and staffing. The librarians at Lafayette include Nichole Ballard-Long, Jane Lingafelter and assistant Robin VanIwaarden. The librarians at Rockwood Summit include Rockwood’s lead librarian Margaret Sullivan, Dr. Gregory Baum and assistant Jessica Hausman. “This is very exciting news and a reflection of the tremendous amount of work our librarians do to promote literacy and foster a love for reading in our students,” said Dr. Shelley Willott, assistant superintendent of Learning and Support Services. “Particularly this year, they were so creative in supporting both our in-person and virtual learners. The recognition is very well deserved!”
