Rockwood School District: Lafayette's Dr. Karen Calcaterra Earns High School Principal Of The Year Award

Lafayette High Principal Dr. Karen Calcaterra has been named the 2021 High School Principal of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals (SASSP). This is Dr. Calcaterra’s fifth year as principal at Lafayette. Previously, she was an associate principal at Lafayette and an assistant principal in the Parkway School District, as well as special education administrator in the Pattonville School District. She also has six years of classroom experience in the Special School District at Parkway and Lindbergh. "Dr. Calcaterra has been a role model for administrators in our district and across St. Louis,” said Lafayette Assistant Principal Dr. Kirti Mehrotra, who was one of the nominators. “She is a lifelong learner willing to adapt to any situation and find solutions that always keep students' needs at the forefront. During this pandemic, she has led her administrative team with foresight and deliberate consideration of the needs of all stakeholders. Dr. Calcaterra has played an important role in making LHS a place that is welcoming and supportive of students, staff, parents and community members.”The awards program recognizes exemplary performance among secondary school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students. SASSP is a district within the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) and covers 31 school districts and private schools throughout the St. Louis metro area. Each MoASSP district selects one individual to be recognized as High School Principal of the Year. One of those recipients will be selected as the MoASSP Principal of the Year and will be entered in the national Principal of the Year award program.Dr. Calcaterra will be officially recognized at a future MoASSP Leadership Conference.​​
