An important aspect of Rockwood's The Way Forward strategic plan is helping prepare our students for life after high school, whichever path they take. Our PDFProfile of a Rockwood Learner sets forth our aspirations to help nurture students who think creatively and critically; engage thoughtfully and respectfully; develop strong character; collaborate with others; and explore our world. In the coming weeks, we will feature stories of 2020 graduates who embody that Profile of a Rockwood Learner as they pursue further education or the start of a career through our "Profile of a Rockwood Graduate" story series. Today, we profile Eureka High graduate Hannah Berger. ----------In addition to her two jobs, Hannah Berger is pursuing a passion for early education at St. Louis Community College-Meramec. The 2020 graduate has always enjoyed working with children, and furthered her knowledge in the field by taking Child Development 1 and 2 at Eureka High. Child Development is a two-semester course that is available at all four Rockwood School District high schools. In the second semester, students venture into the preschool rooms at the high schools and work with 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds."Child Development really interested me in learning about the psychology behind it all," Berger said.  While pursuing postsecondary education, Berger also works at Servpro – a fire and water damage cleanup and restoration company – during the week and St. Louis Bread Co. on the weekends. She also often held afterschool jobs in high school, which didn't leave much time for extracurricular activities.Still, she enjoyed opportunities to follow her interests through outlets such as art class. Berger's teachers entered one of her pieces in the St. Louis Community College-Wildwood Eco-Art Exhibit last spring, and Berger's piece won third place for her school. Her work was displayed with pieces from dozens of other local high school students on the STLCC-Wildwood campus last March."The art teachers were always helping me really make my ideas come to life. They were very supportive and helpful with my art and even things outside of the art class," Berger said. "That meant a lot to me, that they entered one of my pieces into the Eco-Art show. I will forever be thankful for them because they really made my senior year and helped me become more confident in my work."
