An important aspect of Rockwood's The Way Forward strategic plan is helping prepare our students for life after high school, whichever path they take. Sports have always been a big part of Kahlen McFadden's life.

At Rockwood Summit High, the 2020 graduate was a pitcher o​n the Falcons baseball team for four years and a member of the bowling club.McFadden hopes to turn his love of sports into a career as a sports analyst and broadcaster as he studies broadcast journalism at St. Louis Community College-Meramec."My English classes I took in high school really helped me with my college English, as they are very similar to when I took my AP English classes at Summit," McFadden said.McFadden got an early start in radio broadcasting through involvement with the Rockwood Summit radio station, KFTN 92.7 FM. He said language arts teacher Clay Zigler, the KFTN adviser, made an impact on him during his time at Rockwood Summit, along with educators such as Spanish teacher Jason Sinclair, science teac​her James O'Daniel and social studies teacher MaryJo Bauer."My experience in Rockwood really prepared me for a lot of the work I'm doing in my college classes," McFadden said.
