Sophomore Brianna Komorech from Marquette High has a lot to look forward to in 2022. Komorech, a tuba player, will be marching in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. Komorech will be marching along with 299 other musicians from across the country in the Bands of America Honor Band.

The theme of the parade, "Dream. Believe. Achieve.", certainly applies to Komorech. As a sophomore, she is part of DCI (Drum Core International) and an All-Suburban Band 1st alternate.

"Because of COVID, I had a hard time trying out," said Komorech. "The tryout was virtual; I had a few days to work on the piece, and it took me about a week to finally get the application to submit."

Her perseverance paid off. Komorech was one of four students from Missouri selected for the National Honor Band.

Komorech's teacher, Marquete band teacher Christian Pierce never doubted she would make the band.

"Several months ago we were presented with this opportunity, and Brianna expressed interest," said Pierce. "She has always shown a great interest in marching band. This past fall, she was a field manager for the marching band. (something typically reserved for junior and senior students)."

Because she has to pay for this experience, Komorech's mom has created a Go Fund Me page to pay for the trip. Komorech will travel from St. Louis to Pasadena and room with three other students selected to march in the parade.

"My dream is to be a band director," said Komorech. "Marching in the parade is a dream come true."

The parade, which spans 5.5 miles, will take place on New Year's Day 2022 and will be broadcast live on syndicated stations.
