AG Fever!

The possibility of the American Girl store coming to Chesterfield Mall is exciting, but not necessarily to everyone.

You'd think Justin Bieber was moving to Chesterfield to hear the little girls screaming in excitement about the chance that American Girl could be moving into Chesterfield Mall.  My daughter, age 10, is still playing with and enjoying her dolls and when I told her the news, she actually swooned! Really?

So, I got to thinking...what would make me jump up and down in glee? What would create unbridled joy in my West County exsistence? Manolo Blahnik shoes for $50? Waking up 25 pounds lighter and not ever gaining it back? Both are just a bit unrealistic.

I decided to take a step back and look at it from my daughter's perspective. She has been to American Girl a number of times, but only on vacation...Chicago, New York, Kansas City. The thought of going on a semi-regular basis (otherwise I won't be able to pay the mortgage) is awesome for a 10 year old!

This past weekend, I took my daughter to Kansas City to see Taylor Swift.  It was her first concert. The wonderment in her face was worth the ticket price and then-some. I actually got a little teary-eyed.

As adults, we need to remind ourselves of life's little excitements and make them a little more important...so, when the AG store finally opens, and the parking lot is packed, and I'm frustrated about the long lines, and I can see my credit card bill exploding, I will do my very best to look in the eyes of the little girls and remember what it felt like to look at the world with hope and awe!
