Cancer Research Symposium

Presented by Missouri Cures Education Foundation and Staenberg Family Foundation

The Missouri Cures Education Foundation and Staenberg Family Foundation present the Cancer Research Symposium from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, 975 N. Warson Road, St. Louis, MO 63132. The event is open and free to the general public but reservations are required.

The symposium will present Cutting Edge Research such as learning about high-tech goggles that help surgeons “see” cancer and “watch” bacterial cancer therapy destroy cancerous tumors. Speakers for this program segment include Kim Bland, Ph.D., Head of Science Communications, Stowers Institute for Medical Research & BioMed Valley Discoveries. Samuel Achilefu, Ph.D., Professor of Radiology, Washington University School of Medicine Director, Molecular Imaging Center Co-Leader, Oncologic Imaging Program of the NCI-designated Siteman Cancer Center.

Breakthroughs in Blood Diseases: Hear how sequencing genes is a new pioneering way to stop cancer and how bone marrow transplants aim to turn damaged blood cells into healthy blood stem cells. Speakers:
Lukas Wartman, M.D. Assistant Professor of Oncology, Washington University School of Medicine, Assistant Director, Cancer Genomics, The Genome Institute at Washington University.
