CHANGES ARE COMING TO THE GED TEST IN 2014

Like all programs across the state, the Rockwood Adult Education and Literacy program will soon be moving away from the 2002 paper/pencil version of the GED®/High School Equivalency test and begin helping people prepare to take a new computer-based test in 2014.

For those who wish to take the current version of the test before January, GED applications are due to DESE no later than September 1. For test takers who attempted the test, but did not successfully complete, the application is due to DESE by November 4.  Applications currently require a $20 payment. The application form and instructions may be downloaded and printed at www.ged.mo.gov

An additional fee of $20 must be paid to the testing center when registering for the test.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) chose the HiSET test from Educational Testing Services (ETS), which will be in place January 2, 2014. The test will no longer be called “GED,” identified instead as High School Equivalency or HSE. Test scores from the current version of the test will not carry forward to January.

The cost of the new test will be $95, which includes a $60 registration fee for the cost of the test and $7 for each of the five test sections to cover the costs of administering the test. More information on the application process and test is available at www.hse.mo.gov

The High School Equivalency (HSE) test will continue to cover five subject areas—writing, social studies, science, reading and math, but it is being revised to better prepare learners for college and the workforce.

The Rockwood AEL program offers FREE classes to help students prepare for the new High School Equivalency (HSE) test.  We also provide ESL and Citizenship classes for students interested in these services.  To learn about our classes visit our website at http://www.rockwood.k12.mo.us/COMMUNITYED/PROGRAMS/AEL
