Chesterfield Worker Accidentally Shot Thursday Morning
The man was shot in the leg; his injuries are not life-threatening.

A Chesterfield insurance company employee was accidentally shot in the leg Thursday morning when a security guard dropped his gun.
The man was shot in a building at 390 South Woods Mill Rd. was taken to an area hospital after the incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. His injury was not life-threatening, said Lt. Steven Lewis with the Chesterfield police.
The security guard works for a company in the building, Lewis said. Lewis did not identify the security guard or the man who was shot.

When police responded to a call of shots fired, they were made aware that there was an incident in the last week that “involved the possibility of (an employee) being disgruntled,” Lewis said. But this was nothing more than an accidental shooting.
“There wasn’t anything dramatic,” he said. “There’s no criminal activity here.”

Lewis said the security guard was carrying the gun out of its holster when he dropped it. Though police are still investigating, it’s been classified as an accidental discharge of a gun.
