Chesterfield's 21st Annual Earth Day Celebration!

21st Annual Event to Offer Recycling & Eco-Friendly Products

             Start making plans now to save up your recycling materials and attend the 21st Annual Earth Day event in Chesterfield to be held for the first time at the Chesterfield Amphitheater.  The Citizens Committee for the Environment for the City of Chesterfield will host the event on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Festival and on-stage entertainment will be inside the Chesterfield Amphitheater at 631 Veteran’s Place Drive and the drive-thru recycling collection will be held on the parking lot at Central Park located at 16365 Lydia Hill Drive.

At the popular drive-thru recycling collection, residents can bring nearly anything you can think of to be recycled including: 

  • appliances & electronics
  • cardboard, newspaper & glass
  • tennis shoes
  • linens
  • batteries, including tool batteries
  • phone books, hard & softbound books
  • light bulbs
  • plastic planting pots

  Free confidential document shredding will be provided by Cintas (five-box limit).  The Citizens Alliance for Positive Youth (CAPY) and the Chesterfield Police Department will be collecting prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalers, ointments and patches.  Remains, Inc. will be recycling athletic shoes, which allows them to be remanufactured into indoor/outdoor athletic surfaces.  Tie the shoes together, making sure they are free of mud and metal parts such as cleats or zippers.

New this year is Habitat for Humanity/Restore who will collect new and used building materials.  Additionally, the Girl Scouts will have a collection point near the concession area inside the Amphitheater for their April Showers donations, which include new personal care items.

On stage activities include:

9:00 a.m. – Opening Ceremonies & Tree City USA presentation

9:30 a.m. – Dance Performance by Sohum Creative Arts - Indian Modern Dance

10 a.m. – Recycled/Reused Content Fashion Show by Girl Scout Troop #1171

11 a.m. – Raptor Education Show – World Bird Sanctuary

             Earth Day focuses on the conservation and reuse of natural resources.  The event will include numerous exhibitors including Ozark Berry Farm, Forest Releaf, Robinson’s Rain Barrels and St. Louis Composting.  Purchase hand crafted products from Unboxed Art, Clay Play, Shackelford Silver Designs many other talented vendors. 

The Committee will be giving away native trees and plants, native flower seeds, and other Recycling Becomes Me giveaways while supplies last.  Craft activities for kids will be led by Chesterfield Arts and St. Louis Teachers Recycle Center.  There’s something for everyone!
