The Christmas Shoes play is based on the book of the same name, which surrounds two families during the Christmas season. One family is dealing with the serious illness of the mother. Her son wishes to give her a memorable gift, a pair of Christmas shoes. The other family is consumed with the busyness of life, and the father is frequently absent serving his company rather than his family. The two families' lives intersect and lives are changed through this touching story.
The King of Kings cast is directed by three-time regional Emmy award winning director, Dale Ward. "We want to give a gift to our community," said Ward. "The message of the play is despite difficult circumstances, even at the holidays, that the love of Christ does surround you."
One member of the cast, Matthew Howard, is a veteran of the St. Louis Muny stage. He plays the lead of "Nathan," the son of the ill mother. Howard performed as "Kurt Von Trapp" in last summer's Muny production The Sound of Music. Howard has been a performer since he was very young. "I do enjoy performing, but I do want to serve as well, and I like the idea of serving my church community in this way. Plus it's a lot of fun."
