J. Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD, a Logan alumnus, was officially inaugurated as the seventh president of Logan University at a ceremony held June 14, 2013, on its Chesterfield, Mo., campus.
During his inaugural remarks, Dr. McDonald spoke of his vision for Logan’s future to bridge the gaps between chiropractic and the broader medical community. He hopes to position Logan and its graduates at the forefront of integrated health care education and integrated health care delivery.
“It is time to deliver on the obligation to provide access to quality, affordable health care that treats the whole patient,” he said. “We can’t ask or expect our students and graduates to seed and lead collaborative health care communities if we don’t teach and model that behavior at the institutional level.”

Dr. McDonald addressed the need to globally impact health care, its education and delivery systems, and called upon industry and education leaders to work together to drive down educational costs and improve access to higher education and quality, affordable patient care. Audience members included honored guests representing chiropractic and other higher education institutions from around the United States and Canada.
Dr. McDonald brings expertise in chiropractic education, university administration and clinical practice to Logan as well as 30-year career as a chiropractic practitioner managing a multidisciplinary clinic.

Prior to his Logan appointment, he served three years as provost and senior vice president at Texas Chiropractic College where he led the growth and refinement of academic affairs, clinics, enrollment management, institutional advancement, student and administrative services, and facilities.
In addition to his doctor of chiropractic degree, which he earned from Logan in August 1982, Dr. McDonald holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in healthcare administration from
St. Ambrose University in 1997. In 2001, he earned his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law with a Healthcare and Elder Law Certificate and Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate.
