Mid-East Area Agency on Aging's Xmas Meals on Wheels
Agency "Elves" To Brighten Home-Bound Seniors on Christmas Day
Dozens of volunteers will hit the streets in St. Louis County on Christmas morning to deliver a hot meal and a gift bag to 400 older adults who don't have family or friends celebrating the holiday with them. The program, now in its 21st year, is sponsored by the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA).
According to Mary Schaefer, MEAAA Executive Director: ”he Christmas Day Meals program began in 1994 and has served more than 6,000 meals. Seniors who would otherwise be alone on Christmas are identified by social workers, apartment managers and others. Volunteers deliver a specially prepared Christmas dinner along with a gift bag that includes dry soups, canned goods, hot chocolate, pudding and granola bars as well as hats, gloves and scarves and small personal items.”
