Sarah's Cake Shop Satisfies The Aching Sweet Tooth
A bag of goodies from Sarah's is just what the doctor ordered.
Driving through Chesterfield, I developed a nagging tooth problem. While the tooth was in desperate need of immediate attention, an emergency visit to the dentist would not suffice. It wasn't a molar or bicuspid that was causing the pain.
It was my sweet tooth, and it required a trip to the local bakery.
—located at 10 Clarkson Wilson Center—was all the remedy I needed. There were plenty of delicious choices to save the day. There is a pick 'em out and take 'em home lineup of gourmet cupcakes, petit fours and truffles.

There are always a few cakes that you can pick up on a whim, but they'll be happy to create a custom cake for you too, or a cupcake bouquet, but those items need to be ordered in advance. Catering is their specialty. Sarah's has cakes available that can feed from eight to 75 people.
Owner Jill Umbarger opened the business in 2004 and the opened in May 2010. All the baking and catering is done from their production facility in Ellisville. Then in June 2010, Umbarger and her brother, Jeff Pupillo, added a mobile food truck called Sarah's Cake Stop.

At the time, there were only three food trucks operating in the St. Louis area, but since then the craze has exploded with over 15 food trucks. More are seemingly being added every day.
Amber Stage was working the counter when I was there, and explained each individual goodie. She's been at the shop for almost a year and likes what she does.
“I've worked in lots of places, but this is my favorite, really. I love it,” Stage said.
No wonder. Nobody can look into the bright, colorful display cabinets without feeling happy.
For my medicine I choose two truffles, a specialty item called a Glitter Bite and one petit four.
The cake truffle featured yellow cake mixed with cake icing, and the Oreo truffle consisted of Oreo cookie crumbs mixed with cream cheese icing. The Glitter Bite was a puff of cake filled with buttercream and covered in chocolate and sanding sugar.
My choice for traditional petit four had strawberries and champagne along with three layers of almond cake. There's no need to comment on each one. Each was delicious with each successive bite better than the last. For each of these treats you'll pay $1.50—more or less, depending on which you choose and what's available that day. Cupcakes cost $1.50 to $2.75.
As I headed out with my bag of goodies, I asked Stage one last question.
"Do you have a sweet tooth?"
“Unfortunately, yes,” Stage said, and grinned.
