Silver-Haired Legislature To Hold 2016 Elections May 9

Filing Now Open Until 5 p.m. May 2

Filing is now open for this year's Silver-Haired Legislature (SHL) to be held at Mid-East Area Agency on Aging Senior Centers on Monday, May 9. SHL is a formally elected body of citizens 60 years of age or older that promotes conscientious legislative advocacy for Missouri's older adults. All members are volunteer who serve without pay.

Seats are open in the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson. The members of the SHL meet monthly at the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging office in Manchester and hold an annual autumn meeting in Jefferson City with Missouri's other nine SHL delegations to present, debate and vote on priority bills and resolutions. After the autumn annual meeting, SHL members speak to senior groups and legislators to build support for those priority bills. SHL past successes include helping to pass increases in funds for home-delivered meals and in-home services.

The deadline for submitting documentation is 5 p.m., Monday, May 2. Please contact Jan Keith at jkeith@mid-eastaaa.org or at 636.207.0847 for filing information and documentation.
