Winter Opera St. Louis concludes its most impressive season uyet with Guisseppe Verdi’s grand opera, Otello, Friday, March 6th at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 8th at 3:00p.m. at the Skip Viragh Center for the Arts at Chaminade, 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
Intertwined with themes of love, jealousy, betrayal and revenge, this Shakespearean tragedy tells of a military hero who returns home to a warren of schemers determined to steal his wife and advance their own careers. The tragic hero falls for their deception, discovering the truth too late to save his beloved Desdemona.
Otello features the Metropolitan Opera’s Adam Herskowitz in the title role, with soprano Jacqueline Veneable Simmons as Desdemona and Bariton Christopher Holmes as the devious Iago. Steven Jarvi will conduct the orchestra. It’s an all-star cast and a timeless tale, perfect for a cold winter’s night.
