Women Who Want to Change Irrational Beliefs

Women who have become stuck in their traumatic pasts may have developed irrational belief systems.

Often, women who have experienced abusive or neglectful pasts carry them into adulthood. This is a significant cause of irrational belief systems. Irrational beliefs can cause self-defeating behaviors and unwarranted emotional reactions. Flexibility, tolerance and acceptance are keys to having rational thoughts.

Women who learn to challenge irrational beliefs by substituting them with rational coping statements can feel better and behave better. For example, think of a strongly held belief or thought and decide if it is rational or irrational by answering three questions: 1. Is my belief fact based? 2. Can I my goals with this belief? 3. Does my belief or though lead me to feel the way I would like to feel?

The good news is that anything we have learned we can unlearn.
