Allison Bruns is New Board Member at Starkloff Disability Institute

Allison brings more than 12 years of accomplishment in corporate and political communications to her role as SDI's newest board member.

FEBRUARY 9, 2015, St. Louis, Missouri…Allison Bruns has been elected a member of the Board of Directors at Starkloff Disability Institute (SDI), a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities participate fully and equally in all aspects of society.

Allison brings more than 12 years of accomplishment in corporate and political communications to her role as SDI’s newest board member.

For more than three years, Allison has worked in corporate public relations at Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, in St. Louis. Among her other job responsibilities, Allison develops and implements media relations plans, and tracks regulatory changes that impact Wells Fargo Advisors’ lines of business.

Before joining Wells Fargo Advisors, Allison served as Director of Communications for the Missouri State Auditor’s Office and, previously, she was a public relations senior specialist with the global public relations firm FleishmanHillard.

Allison also served as the Director of Boards and Commissions in the Missouri Governor’s Office. There, she interviewed judicial nominees and citizens pursuing board and commission appointments; analyzed legislation to submit written briefs to the governor; coordinated efforts between Senators, the Senate Investigator and other parties regarding nominated appointees; and conducted background checks of potential appointees.

Allison also worked in communications and development at Clayco, one of the nation’s leading design-build contractors, where she drafted direct-mail pieces and articles for various business units, managed sustainable-marketing programs and supervised the company’s charitable-giving initiatives.

Allison was inspired to become involved with SDI by a close friend whom she describes as “an extraordinary woman who works tirelessly at her job and for causes in the community. She has a college education, an impressive skill set and a charming personality. This woman also has a disability,” Allison said.

“It would upset me beyond words to think that this impressive woman would be limited in her professional career due to her disability and, more specifically, how an assumption about her disability by a hiring manager or human resources official could limit her career.

“SDI is committed to creating a culture and world where people who have disabilities are not treated differently than anyone else and not limited in any way,” Allison said. “The organization is particularly focused on bridging the gap between skilled job candidates who are people with disabilities and employers in the region. I am proud to be an SDI board member.”
