New Artists-in-Residence for 2013 Announced at the St. Louis Artists' Guild

While creating work in the St. Louis Artists' Guild's printmaking studio and darkroom, these artists will educate and interact with the community.

CLAYTON, MO — The St. Louis Artists 'Guild has officially announced its slate of artists-in-residence in Printmaking and Photography for its Winter–Spring and Summer–Fall 2013 sessions. During their residencies, artists will be given 24-hour access to the St. Louis Artists' Guild's studio facilities. The artwork completed during the residencies will then be exhibited in the St. Louis Artists' Guild's galleries. In addition, artists-in-residence will participate in educational programs at the St. Louis Artists' Guild.

Sarah Bernstein (Printmaking): Sarah Bernstein identifies herself as both a visual artist and a storyteller, drawing inspiration from mythology and folklore. Duirng her residency at the St. Louis Artists' Guild, Bernstein will create a sries of monoprints illustrating modern folk narratives she developed in collaboration with a traditional Slavic storyteller. Bernstein has a BFA in Printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis. She has exhibited at SCA Contemporary (Albuquerque, NM), Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts (St. Louis, MO), Broadway Art Space (St. Louis, MO), and Des Lee Gallery (St. Louis, MO). She was previously a Studio Resident and Community Arts Advisor at Next Dor in St. Louis, MO.

Russ Rosener (Photography): During his residency at the St. Louis Artists' Guild, Russ Rosener will be continuing a series of photographs exploring the movement of the human figure through time and physical place. Rosener has a MFA in Visual Studies from the Visual Studies Workshop (Rochester, NY) and a BFA in Radio, TV and Film from University of Missouri at Columbia. He currently teaches photography at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. He has exhibited at venues such as the St. Louis Artists' Guild,Art Saint Louis, and Mad Art Gallery.

SUMMER–FALL 2013 (July to December 2013)

David Williams (Printmaking): Using printmaking as a foundation, Williams cuts apart and draws onto his prints to create expansive works exploring themes of mortality, spirituality, and religion. In his work, Williams often references tropes from art history, especially Italian art. David Williams has a MFA in Printmaking fromLouisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA) and BFA in Graphic Deisgn from Colorado State University(Fort Collins, CO). Williams has exhibited at Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge (Baton Rouge, LA), theShaw Center for the Arts (Baton Rouge, LA), Foster Gallery (Baton Rouge, LA), and the Old Town Gallery(Fort Collins, CO). He has completed a previous residency at the Ex-Pescheria Printmaking Studio (Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy) and is currently working on a Printmaking residency at the Vermont Studio Center.

Nancy Exarhu (Photography): Nancy Exarhu's work combines both photography and printmaking to explore ideas of personal mythology and cultural identity. During her residency, Exarhu wil use both the print shop and darkroom to create a series of prints with imagery drawn from votive offerings, objects of desire, and parts of the body (such as the heart, hands, ears, and eyes). Exarhu holds a MFA in Printmaking fromWashington University in St. Louis, and a Painting Diploma from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. She has exhibited at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, the Gallery at the University City Public Library(University City, MO), SoHa Gallery (St. Louis, MO), Vlassis Art Gallery (Thassaloniki, Greece), Technohoros Gallery (Athens, Greece), Art Saint Louis, and the St. Louis Artists' Guild. She has done previous residencies at Clayton High School and Nerinx High School through Art Saint Louis's "Voices" program.
