Attorney Laura Krebs Al-Shathir is Promoted to Counsel at Law Firm Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan, P.C.

APRIL 15, 2015, St. Louis, Missouri…Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir has been promoted to Counsel at the law firm of Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan, P.C. She joined the firm as an associate in 2011.

Ms. Al-Shathir focuses her practice primarily in areas of civil and criminal tax controversy and litigation; business and finance; and tax advice.

She provides tax and business planning advice in corporate transactions, including business acquisitions, formations, expansions, and reorganizations; employee benefits and executive compensation; and sales, dissolutions, and terminations of businesses.

In her tax controversy practice, Ms. Al-Shathir advocates clients’ interests in resolving disputes with the IRS in tax audits and appeals, as well as in litigation before the U.S. Tax Court. She helps clients evaluate options for mitigating risks and exposures with respect to offshore bank accounts and other foreign income and assets.

Ms. Al-Shathir served on the Capes, Sokol legal team that recently saved a Missouri client more than $2.7 million in a U.S. Tax Court case.

She is the incoming Chair of the Taxation Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and she is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association Sections of Taxation and Business. In 2014, she was named a Missouri Lawyers Weekly “Up and Coming Lawyer.”

Ms. Al-Shathir earned a Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Tax at the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Law, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, cum laude, at the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Journalism.
