Beyond Housing Makes Progress in the Normandy School District

It is time to reflect on the good things like Chris Krehmeyer and his staff at Beyond Housing that are focused on helping those with a few extra challenges that many of us do not have to think about.

During our weekly sales meeting, we often have guest speakers presenting on local initiatives, new businesses, industry trends, etc.  On Tuesday, we had the opportunity to hear Chris Krehmeyer, President/CEO of Beyond Housing, speak about that organization’s community development efforts in the Normandy School District.  The project has received national attention and was referenced in the Building Neighborhoods of Opportunity, the White House Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative Report published in July 2011.

Beyond Housing services include developing affordable rental housing, land development, rehabbing homes, educating 1st time home buyers, and offering counseling through a foreclosure intervention program.  Take a look at their successes and learn how to volunteer at www.beyondhousing.org.

After hearing Chris speak, I thought of my “wish list” that I created when we were shopping for our last home and that I often ask home buyers that I am working with to create.  The number of bedrooms, neighborhood, baths, floor plan, updates is representative of what was on my list and what I would expect to see on the lists of the buyers I help.

I never had to think about putting a “safe area”, “good” school district, access to a grocery store or bank on my list.  These were implied or just a given.  Many of us  are so fortunate.

With all the negative news, it is time to reflect on the good things in life including people like Chris and his staff that are focused on helping those with a few extra challenges that many of us do not have to think about.
