Mental Health America Offers Free Seminars
Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri offers a free series of mental wellness seminars.
My friends at Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri (MHA) have a wonderful series of free seminars available to area organizations. Here is some information on one of them...
“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.” – Eckhart Tolle
A contentious national election, financial woes, a new job or a family crisis can affect the stability of your life. Sometimes you receive advance notice of a life-changing event. At other times, it strikes without warning. Whatever the case, the chances of coping and overcoming obstacles improve with preparation.

MHA has developed a seven-step strategy called REBOUND to help people bounce back to a place of stability in times of change.
“We have flashlights handy in case the power goes out and we put aside money for a rainy day,” said Riisa Easley, MHA director of mental health promotion. “But, how many of us think ahead about how to prepare emotionally for a sudden job loss, family member illness or other life-changing event? REBOUND can help.”

“While no one can predict how and when change will strike, Easley said, no one is immune.” REBOUND is a personal blueprint to prepare for life’s inevitable ebbs and flows. It is about building resilience, exercising strengths and increasing your ability to cope with adversity.
REBOUND helps to explore 7 steps to coping with change:
Reserve your energy for what you can control
Expect physical, emotions and social reactions
Balance the areas of your life
Outline your needs strengths and goals
Utilize stress management strategies
Negotiate with yourself and others to get your needs met
Don’t overemphasize the negative effects of change
Ignoring the emotional feelings about changes in one’s life can potentially mean problems down the road. REBOUND demonstrates how to embrace life’s ups and downs and realize that even the most difficult situations can lead to positive new realities.
REBOUND is one of five mental wellness seminars offered by MHA-EM that can be presented at any workplace, religious congregation, community center, or school. As a community mental well-being resource, MHA provides these seminars at no cost.
