Things That Go Bump in the Night

Some of the changes from summer to Autumn are subtle.

Some of the changes from summer to Autumn are subtle. For example, switching from gin and tonic to vodka martinis, extra dry; turning off the air conditioner and turning on the whole house attic fan to suck in cooler night air with lower humidity; pulling out that long sleeved denim shirt to toss over your shoulders as you sip your early morning coffee in the garden; eyeing the Fourth of July window at flanked by a window with harvest theme and the other window with gnomes and pumpkins.

And finally there are those things that "go bump in the night", a sure sign of Autumn. Large phosphorescent green Luna moths crash against the night window screens. The large brown bat careens in concentric circles around the streetlight and is sometimes joined by a smaller, just as erratic flying female. And last, but not least, the returning lineup of Fall television shows as nights get longer and we gather around the luminous screens of H.D.-t.v. A new season of Grimm, anyone?
