Introducing The Masters Series.
St. Louis based artist Brian Owens is embarking on his version of a PhD in classic soul. The result will be a series of concerts focusing on the music of great artists like Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Johnny Cash and more.
With the help of other St. Louis-based musicians, Brian will share his musical dissertations through a series of concerts, starting with a exploration of the music of Marvin Gaye at the Sheldon Concert hall on Thursday, August 8. A recreation of Sam Cooke's "Live at the Copacabana" concert is planned for October 10th at The Rustic Goat. Four additional shows are being developed for 2014.
"It's a musical challenge for me to really dig into the work of these great artists," says Owens. "It's not only musically fulfilling, but a chance to share with audiences live performances of work that is only heard on recordings and that some of my generation have never heard live. It can remind us all of the power and universality of this music."
