Celebrating Father’s Day: For 70 + Years, St. Louis Father-Son Duo Transfer Wealth & Love at Merrill Lynch

For more than 70 combined years, Richard Slocomb and his son, Mark Slocomb, have worked for Slocomb Simmons Livingston Group in the Clayton, MO branch of Merrill Lynch.  The father-son duo has worked directly together for more than 25 years to build relationships with their wealth management clients in Clayton and the surrounding St. Louis communities.

Mark didn’t always follow in his father’s footsteps as when he first embarked on his own career, he opted to work in international banking. After Richard spoke with Mark of the potential of a father-son working relationship serving the financial needs of St. Louis communities, Mark made a career switch to wealth management in 1987. Within three years, Mark and Richard were in a 50/50 partnership. Richard recently celebrated his 50th anniversary with Merrill Lynch and currently works as an investment associate alongside Mark, who now serves as a SVP and senior financial advisor.

Although following in your father’s footsteps is never easy, Richard has always been a huge supporter of his son and helped to make Mark’s career transition a success. The appreciation is mutual with Mark also serving as a support system for his father, encouraging his decision to retake the Series 7 Exam at 72-years-old so he could continue to partner with Mark to help make the financial lives better of St. Louis residents.

Though not every father and son chooses the professional path that Richard and Mark have taken, their father and son story is universal. Their bond, mutual respect and commitment to success are stories that everyone can appreciate, especially this Father’s Day.
