DVD Review - Forever's End

Intriguing low-budget suspense tale with appealing cast of newcomers

Forever’s End **½ (out of 5) In this quiet little indie film, a young woman (Charity Farrell, who looks like she could be Jenna Malone’s kid sister) has endured six years without human contact in her rural home following some sort of apocalyptic event that apparently killed everyone around her without damaging the landscape. Certain objects start moving on their own; her sister (Lili Reinhart) suddenly appears with a chip on her shoulder and no explanation of where she’s been all this time, or how much of the world they knew still exists. Then a handsome guy (Warren Bryson) shows up, claiming to have known Charity before, though she can’t recall him. She’s drawn to him; her sister is suspicious.

The three attractive young actors keep viewers interested enough for J. C. Schroder’s screenplay to reveal more of who’s who, and how they landed in these surreal circumstances. Various plot elements raise questions about possible disparities between what we’re seeing and the underlying realities of this exercise in psychological suspense. Several explanations are dangled along the way, though the answers may not satisfy all comers. As director, Schroder does a nice job of showcasing his cast while they tease us with directions the script may take them. DVD release 11/25/14; also available from various video on demand outlets.
