If you’ve given up caffeine or just want to take the kids out for a warm beverage, there are plenty of great options other than coffee. This week, we found five great mugs of hot cocoa hidden around Clayton.

  • The original Kaldi's, located on DeMun Avenue in Clayton, offers an assortment of chocolaty goodness including a small basic hot chocolate for $2.95 and a large, sweetly spicy Aztec Hot Cocoa for $3.90. If you’ve never tried a more exotic chocolate drink, the extra dollar is well worth it.
  • may be known for incredible iced drinks such as the Irish Honey, but you can also warm up with a glass of hot steamed milk rich with Ghirardelli chocolate for between $2.25 and $2.80
  • Northwest Coffee If you’re stopping into to work off some winter weight, you can also warm up with a hot cup of chocolate from Northwest Coffee for between $2.10 and $2.70. Try adding a pump of peppermint syrup to spice it up.
  • wins for cheapest hot chocolate in Clayton. You can get a small cup for as little as $1.99 or a large for $2.50.
  • If you’re the kind of person who still wants ice in your drink no matter what the weather is like outside, City Coffeehouse and Creperie offers a $4 frozen hot chocolate as the best of both worlds.
