Mosaic 5K Draws Runners Despite Overcast Skies

The fundraiser for Mosaic Services happened Saturday at Maplewood Richmond Heights High School.

Cool temperatures and overcast skies made for a lighter than usual turnout for the third annual Mosaic 5K. But the small field of runners that gathered at on Saturday morning still drew an enthusiastic crowd of friends and family to cheer them on. Following the completion of the course by the final participants, the track hosted three shorter children's races, including a 100-meter and a half-mile.

The event served as a fundraiser for Mosaic Services, a support network for at-risk students in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District that partners with families to meet their academic, social and financial needs.

Not long after the event began, the weather brightened and the day took on the atmosphere of a festival. A colorful clown drew a crowd of children who waited patiently while she constructed dozens of intricate balloon sculptures.
