Movie Review - Avengers: Endgame
Follow-up to last summer's Infinity War lives up to its substantial hype and will more than satisfy the franchise's faithful fans
Avengers: Endgame **** (out of 5) (PG-13) One of the most anticipated summer blockbusters has finally arrived. It’s a great ride for fans of the Marvel superheroes franchise, but all potential viewers should heed the following points (not necessarily in order of importance):
1 - This one occurs five years after Thanos’ wiped out half the populations of many worlds in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. That was his perverse method of preserving their overburdened ecosystems. Earth and its citizens haven’t even come close to recovering. The team, with a few personnel changes, finds a new way to take him on, and possibly even undo his genocidal actions.
2 - If the preceding is all new to you, don’t even think about using this epic as an intro to this realm. You’ll have no clue as to what’s going on, who all these Spandex-clad good guys are, or what their assorted powers may be.

3 - If you’re up on all the backstory lore, you’ll find this one a thrilling ride, despite having more somber stretches than ususal for Marvel fare. You’ll also be pleased by the depth of the cast, providing at least a brief appearance by everyone from the previous films.
4 - Fortunately, the downbeat side of the tale is offset by a slew of the wisecracks and gags we’ve come to expect, clearly distinguishing these films from the deadly serious DC releases. With time travel as the premise, that lighter side includes a batch of pop culture references and other jokes as they discuss if and how the plan might work. Consult your local physicist to fact-check the game plan.

5 - The computer-enhanced action sequences and vistas are wonderful. Look for the biggest screen available to maximize your thrills.
6 - It runs three hours, so prepare your relevant organs accordingly.
7 - Fans will find the time passing so quickly that it will seem shorter - always a big plus.
8 - Nice, unusual nod to the late, great Stan Lee; but if you blink at the wrong time, you’ll miss it.
9 - THERE’S NO TEASER AT THE END OF THE LENGTHY CREDITS, so you don’t have to worry about missing any gems by skipping them.
10 - This is one film that lives up to its hype, which is not always the case. (4/26/19)
