Movie Review - The Hunt
Amusing gorefest with delightful variations on the oft-used humans-hunting-humans -for-sport concept
The Hunt ***½ (out of 5) (R) This review will be relatively short, because the less you know before going in, the more you’ll enjoy the twists and other surprises. Fans of gorefests with a comic element will mostly be delighted. There have been quite a few flicks and TV episodes in which some rich jerks round up “disposable” people and hunt them for sport. This one simultaneously follows and spoofs the usual plot premise, with a bit of social satire as an extra return on investment.
Perhaps the largest pleasure to be derived will be AFTER you’ve watched it, as you listen to all the Talking Heads on all sides of the political spectrum whining and ranting about how they’re being victimized by this production. Most of them will likely not have even seen it. Those who have will know that it’s really no big deal, and nothing for so-called spokespersons of various interests to get their undies in a bundle over. Enjoy it for the escapism with some clever deviations from genre norms they intended. Then comes the bonus of watching the reactive sound and fury that signifies nothing, beyond the overblown egos of the denouncers. (3/13/20)
