MRH Debaters Fare Well At Parkway West Season Opener

MRH Debate Team competed online at the Parkway West Invitational tournament Friday and Saturday.

Seniors Andrew McCandliss and Nathan Hall reached semi-finals before bowing out to archrival Ladue in Varsity Division. Freshman Katy Corcoran and Sophomore Katelyn Vasey defeated Clayton High School in novice quarterfinals before ending their run in semi-finals against Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience.
The two third-place finishes at a major invitational is the most competitively successful outing by MRH Debate in its four-year history. The effort was supported by team Captain Max Cusick, and fellow debaters James Granger, Jackson Corcoran, Josiah Ayres, Daniel Claussen, and Ian McWilliams. The team is debating opposing sides of criminal justice reform.

Over 20 area high schools competed in this first-ever fully online debate tournament. MRH District IT Manager James Gardner provided invaluable support with unique technology challenges.
