Patch Picks: Utility Boxes

Boring necessities become public art in Clayton.

Impressionist paintings. Downtown Clayton’s painted utility boxes make boring necessities of life into public art. This week on Patch Picks, we show off the city’s sense of fun.

  1. Meramec - Ralph Clayton watches over the city that bears his name from the corner of Meramec Avenue and Forsyth Boulevard.
  2. Forsyth - Only blocks from Ralph Clayton, a portrait of Robert Forsyth observes traffic on the street that bears his name.
  3. Central - Everyone wants to be awarded the key to the city until they discover the lock is safely buried inside a utility box.
  4. Bonhomme - This warm celebration of music lies within sight of Shaw Park Ice Rink.
  5. Brentwood - A pastoral scene of grazing cattle in the midst of a busy urban neighborhood reminds people what the area might have been like 200 years ago.
