Shaw Park Tennis Center Reopening Postponed

Construction delays prevent the Clayton parks department from opening its new tennis courts at Shaw Park.

Shaw Park has been getting a face lift in time for Clayton Centennial Celebration which will be held in 2013.

The tennis courts are part of that overhaul. The old courts were demolished and regraded. New concrete has been poured. But the courts are quite ready yet.

The reopening has been postponed until September 22, weather and construction permitting.

"While we are disappointed that we will not meet our targeted opening date, we are looking forward to the community enjoying our new post-tension concrete courts for many years to come," said parks department officials on their website.

The Grand Reopening Celebration is now scheduled for Saturday, September 29 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  The parks deparment will have activities, refreshments and an opportunity to meet the tennis instructors.

Funding for the project was made possible through a St. Louis County Municipal Park Grant for $232,000 with the remainder coming from the City’s Capital Budget.

Shaw Park is also getting enhancements to the walking trails, a new pavilion, gardens and public art.
