Streaming series review - Alexandra Ehle
Charming light-hearted French TV mystery series provides a pleasant bit of diversion
Alexandra Ehle *** (out of 5) (NR) MHz Choice is offering two new streaming episodes of this charming French TV series about a coroner (Julie Depardieu – Yeah. Gerard’s daughter, who luckily must look more like her mom than her dad) whose curiosity compels her to become far more involved in the story of how each stiff lands on her table than anyone wants her to be. Apparently, she’s had six outings before these two, though I haven’t seen them. Based on this sample, I would like to.
Relationships with her ex-hubbie and others provide continuity, though the episodes are complete mysteries, not requiring binge viewing for closure. Ehle is rather frazzled, trying to solve crimes while ducking the eagle eye of her new boss – a penny-pinching clock-watcher who only cares about closing files as quickly and cheaply as possible, and would chain Ehle in the autopsy room if she could. That adds a nice comedic element to her efforts. The supporting cast is filled with well-drawn characters, making their interactions a strong part of the series’ appeal. Fans of the other French light crime series I’ve been lauding, Cherif, should find this one similarly appealing. She's cuter than Quincy, and more fun than Jessica Fletcher.
(In French with subtitles. Streaming on MHz Choice as of 7/19/22)
