WGU Missouri Announces $50,000 in Scholarships for Veterans, Military Service Members, and their Families in Honor of Veteran's Day
To honor all those who have served our country, nonprofit, online university WGU Missouri today announced it is offering $50,000 in scholarships for veterans, active-duty military, reservists and military family members who are interested in furthering their education. The WGU Missouri Salute To Veterans Scholarship can be applied to any of the university’s more than 50 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in IT, business, K-12 education and health professions, including nursing. Applications are now being accepted through Jan. 31, 2018.
Each WGU Missouri Salute To Veterans Scholarship is valued at up to $2,500 per student and will be applied at the rate of $650 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms.
“WGU Missouri has been integral in my path to becoming a teacher, which has been a goal of mine since I was a child,” said Therese Meres, a current Bachelor of Arts in Special Education student and Air Force veteran. “During my time at WGU Missouri, I’ve been able to get an amazing education and have had access to wonderful student services and caring student and course mentors – all without breaking the bank. Enrolling was one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

Of the 2,700 students currently enrolled at WGU Missouri, about 11 percent are active-duty military personnel, veterans, or dependent family members of military personnel. Western Governors University has been recognized for ten consecutive years by Military Advanced Education & Transition as a “Top School” and for seven consecutive years as a Military Friendly® School.
All WGU Missouri programs are competency-based, providing the flexibility veterans and their families need. Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of their knowledge and real-world experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. WGU Missouri faculty members work one-on-one with students as mentors, offering guidance, support, and individualized instruction. While WGU Missouri degree programs are rigorous and challenging, competency-based learning makes it possible for students to accelerate their programs, saving both time and money.
