ST. LOUIS MAR. 11, 2013: Make-A-Wish® Missouri announces the addition of a 5K Race to their Annual Walk For Wishes®, now RUN & WALK for Wishes, to be held on April 6, 2013 at Forest Park, Upper Muny Lot. This event is open to the public and is presented by Emerson. Festivities begin with the 5K Race at 9am, followed by a family fun walk and Wish Carnival. The Wish Carnival, which runs from 9am to noon will include free games, prizes, bounce houses, mascot characters, and more. All proceeds will fund the local wishes of children, like Tara, who are battling life-threatening illnesses.
Wish Kid Tara, age 9 from Maryland Heights, is battling Charcot Marie Tooth Muscular Dystrophy. Tara is a joyful child who refuses to let her illness stop her from enjoying life, as she knows it. The anticipation of her wish to go on a Caribbean Cruise gives her strength and hope “I can’t wait to go on a huge ship for the first time with my family” says Tara. As wish ambassadors, Tara and her family are proud to represent Make-A-Wish® Missouri at the St. Louis Run & Walk for Wishes. They are hopeful that spotlighting Tara’s wish will encourage the St. Louis community to come together and make a difference for Tara and other children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

“A wish come true gives the children we serve hope, strength and joy at a time when they need it the most,” said Make-A-Wish event organizer Megan Hoffman who is also a wish granter for the organization. “Proceeds from last years event allowed Make-A-Wish® to fund 70 wishes for children like Tara. We’re anticipating this years event to be even successful, especially with the opportunity to include runners and walkers,” said event manager from Make-A-Wish, Megan Hoffman.

Runners can register at any Missouri Running Company store or online, like all walking participants, at www.walkforwishesSTL.com. The entry fee for the 5K Race is $25. Any participant, walker or runner, who fundraises or donates $100 or more will receive a free event shirt. Companies or groups are encouraged to join as teams.
