Author and artist Rob Scotton recently visited Rossman School Junior Kindergarten through second grade students, who were eager to meet the creator of the best-selling picture book series featuring Splat the Cat and Russell the Sheep. Captivating students with his charming personality and passionate, animated storytelling, Scotton read his Halloween-themed Scaredy-Cat Splat and his newest release, Splat Says Thank You!
Scotton also shared the story behind the series, revealing that it was a neighbor’s clumsy cat, named Ninja, who inspired Splat. Scotton demonstrated how he illustrates Splat and other characters, emphasizing the simple steps in the process and assuring students anyone can draw.
Rossman School Librarian Lin Edmonston worked with Left Bank Books in St. Louis to make Scotton’s visit possible.
