crews are replacing about 2592 feet of an 6-inch diameter water main along Spoede Lane from Spoede Road to include both Spoede Lane North and South in Creve Coeur. The replacement work will begin this week and is slated for completion in Mid October 2012.
The project will replace a water line that is approximately 75 years old with a new section of 8-inch diameter pipe. The work is part of Missouri American Water’s proactive water main replacement program, designed to identify and replace water lines that are at the end of their useful lives. The larger diameter pipes will also help to improve fire flows in this area.
Replacement projects are selected based upon their community benefits, including reducing water main breaks and improving the overall integrity of the water system in the area. Missouri American Water maintains approximately 4,200 miles of water mains in the St. Louis area.
