Isaac: Red Cross Sends More Resources From Missouri To The Gulf Coast

The Red Cross tweeted Monday that seven more St. Louis area volunteers were being sent to help with shelter, transportation and mental health recovery needs in Alabama, Louisiana and Florida.

Deploying to Florida to Help in Disaster Operations

ST. LOUIS, AUGUST 24, 2012— Two
additional Red Cross volunteers from the St. Louis Area Chapter are headed to Florida, as Tropical Storm Isaac pushes toward the United States. That means a total of 17 from our Region are now in position to help in relief efforts and more could be deployed in the coming days.

The two volunteers deployed today to Tampa are:

James Brown, St. Charles, MO; will assist in shelters

Don Barkley, Belleville, IL; will work in mass care

Ten other volunteers from the St. Louis Area Chapter and five volunteers from the Heart of Missouri Chapter already deployed to Florida. Both Chapters are part of the Greater St. Louis Region. These volunteers will serve the relief
operation in areas of transportation, driving of emergency response vehicles, sheltering, disaster mental health and staff wellness.

Right now the Red Cross is preparing to open dozens of shelters across Florida and is moving hundreds
of trained disaster workers into the state. There are at least 22 Red Cross emergency response vehicles already in Florida and 28 more are moving into the state in advance of the storm with an additional 112 on stand-by.The Red Cross has sent five truckloads of disaster supplies and clean-up items like rakes, shovels and tarps to send to Florida. 30,000 ready-to-eat meals are already in
Florida. Red Cross disaster warehouses in Georgia and Mississippi are ready to ship emergency supplies if necessary. Closely watching the storm, the Red Cross
is ready to send volunteers to Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, if needed.
