Rossman School fifth graders recently raised the money to buy 5,000 meals for starving and malnourished children, then volunteered their time to package the food.
This past winter, the class of 30 students, which is taught by Jennifer Boyd and Todd Valdez, raised $1,250 for Kids Against Hunger, a food aid organization with the mission to significantly reduce the number of undernourished children in the U.S. and around the world. Then, in March, the students served at a local packaging facility where they filled 25 boxes with enough meals to feed 14 children for one year.
The Kids Against Hunger meals, formulated by food scientists to provide the protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins children need, will be shipped to a local or international organization that serves starving children and their families.

The fundraising and volunteer effort by the fifth grade class is part of Rossman School’s commitment to the “Rossman Rules” of kindness, honesty, respect and responsibility. Every class at Rossman School performs a service project during the school year.
