Two Rossman School Alumni Among Presidential Scholar Semifinalists

Rossman School alumni Thomas Hartke and Kelly Hatfield were recently named semifinalists in the US Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

Hatfield, a senior at John Burroughs School, attended Rossman School for eight years before graduating in 2007. Hartke, who attended Rossman for grades 2 through 6, is a senior at Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ.

Now in its 49th year, the US Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and provides leadership development opportunities for some of America's most outstanding graduating high school seniors. Hatfield and Hartke were among approximately 3,000 students nationwide selected based on their ACT and SAT scores as candidates for the award.

A rigorous application process and thorough evaluation of candidates’ academic achievements, leadership, character, service and other extracurricular activities narrowed the pool to only 500 semifinalists.

In May, one male and one female student from each state will be named finalists, receiving an invitation to Washington, D.C., in June, where they will partake in a broad range of educational, celebratory and fellowship activities and receive the Presidential Medallion.
