Across Missouri and across the country, the American Diabetes Association will hold Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes events to raise awareness about diabetes and money to fight a disease that affects so many.

“Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all,” said Claire Leffler, Step Out Walk Executive Committee. “Step Out is a day to celebrate our Red Striders, who are children and adults with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes.  It’s a day to raise awareness and recognize our teams, walkers and sponsors and celebrate their fundraising success! Come join us as we stop diabetes together!”

Most Step Out participants join or form Corporate, Family, Club, School or Church Teams, but individual walkers are welcome, too. National sponsors also provide critical funding and special thanks goes to: Novo Nordisk, Walgreens, Cary's® Sugar Free Syrup, Equal® 0 Calorie Sweetener and PureVia® All Natural Zero Calorie Sweetener.  Local Sponsors include: The Esse Health Foundation, The Boeing Company, Cass Information Systems and the Delmar Gardens Family.

“Diabetes is a major cause of heart disease and stroke. It is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States,” said Leffler.  “Walking is one of the best forms of exercise for people with diabetes and helps to control glucose levels; and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes provides an opportunity for people to come together for a fun, healthy activity.”

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to Stop Diabetes and its deadly consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
